Most Disliked

Long queues can be a common sight outside Margaret's Chippy, especially during peak hours or on Fridays. While the wait often indicates quality, it can be frustrating for those who prefer a quick meal.

Some customers have experienced inconsistency in portion sizes or food quality on occasion, which can be disappointing for regulars expecting the usual excellence.

Cash-only payments can be inconvenient for those used to electronic transactions, but this quirky aspect adds to the chippy’s old-fashioned charm.

Margaret’s Chippy is a fantastic spot for classic fish and chips, serving up fresh, crispy, and generously portioned meals. The batter is light and crunchy, the fish is always flaky, and the chips are perfectly cooked exactly what you’d hope for from a proper chippy. Tip: aim to get there close to opening time, especially if you want to avoid the wait. Fridays can be particularly busy, with long queues forming due to their well-deserved popularity. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, visiting earlier in the day or on a quieter weekday is a good idea. Overall, Margaret’s Chippy is definitely worth a visit for great food and friendly service, just plan your timing wisely!

Hadn't called in for ages. But the Cod and Chips and a can of Dandelion and Burdock pop were absolutely delicious, even better than i remember. Definitely going back on my next week off!! If you don't want a long wait, my advice is to go early, as the queue will be a very long one!!

This is a hidden gem of an old school chippy! Everyone who’s ever heard of Margaret’s chippy in Chesterfield, loves it! Let's be honest no other place comes close. This place is a Family owned chippy that's been running for years and is like a chippy in the front room of a house which is down a side street off Whittington Moor. This chippy has no big sign outside, so if you drive pass, you would miss it. There is usually a queue outside which says it all about the Quality food on offer. The chips are absolutely amazing! And the fish is good too! They even do fish bits which are the crispy battered bits that come off in the oil! I had never had them before having them here, but they give that extra crunch to the Chips and I totally recommend them! The fish and chips are smaller portions that are served in the traditional old style way in newspaper which is a lovely touch and the portion sizes reflects in the price they charge. You will still feel satisfied with the portion size as the food is so good! Can’t recommend this place enough! Best fish and chips I’ve ever had where ever I have travelled in the UK! 5 Stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Best chip shop in the whole of Derbyshire, but went today, and the chips were nothing like what are normally. Don't mind the long wait to get perfect chips, don't know what happened today. Hope it's just a one off
